Admission Requirements

Admissions to the NUS MSc in Precision Health and Medicine programme is competitive and selective.

While meeting the minimum requirements outlined below establishes eligibility, final admission decisions reflect the programme's commitment to assembling a diverse cohort of exceptional candidates.

Academic

Successful applicants typically possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Medicine (M.B.B.S.)
  • Any STEMM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Medicine) or related field.
  • Any quantitative humanities discipline or related field.
Note: Honours degrees are preferred.
Note: Candidates with other qualifications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, subject to approval of the Programme Committee.

Skills and Experience

As MScPHM is an interdisciplinary Master's programme, the ideal candidate for our Master's programme would possess foundational knowledge in both quantitative sciences and biological/biomedical fields.

For applicants with no quantitative or programming undergraduate backgrounds, aptitude in quantitative sciences can be demonstrated through:

  • Completion of basic programming (R/Python) or statistics courses
  • Participation/awards in quantitative competitions (e.g., Math Olympiad)
  • Relevant work experience in data science fields (advantageous)

For applicants with no biological/biomedical undergraduate backgrounds, aptitude in the field can be demonstrated through:

  • Completion of basic biology courses (online courses are acceptable)
  • Participation/awards in bio-related competitions
  • Relevant work experience or internships or research in biological/biomedical fields (advantageous)

Applicant Background and Preparation

A majority of the successful applicants typically come from EITHER biological/biomedical backgrounds OR programming/computational fields. Prior to joining the Master's programme, we would recommend students to prepare themselves by:

  • Studying relevant reference books in programming or bio-related subjects (depending on your background)
  • Participating in available online courses through platforms (e.g. YouTube or Coursera)
  • Enrolling in preparatory/bridging courses specifically organized by the MScPHM programme.

English Language

For applicants whose native language or medium of university instruction is not English, proof of English proficiency is required through either:

  • TOEFL: Minimum score of 85 (Internet-based) or
  • IELTS: Minimum Academic score of 6.0
Note: Test scores must be valid (taken within the last two years) at time of application.
Note: Additional test scores (e.g. GRE) may be submitted to strengthen your application but are not required.
